Betting a full season of baseball is definitely a marathon. The number of games and volume of statistics available can make it difficult for a recreational handicapper to stay on top of things. It's also difficult to determine which numbers are important when it comes to handicapping a game and which ones can be discarded. It's much more of a grind than trying to pick winners in other sports, especially football. We're about to give you a situation designed to cut down on the time spent handicapping. It's meant to be helpful to casual bettors who want to profit, but don't have a lot of time to wade through each days MLB card to find winners. Please note: Teams that fit the situation we're about to present are not automatic plays, but the situation does identify possible plays as long as there are no extenuating circumstances (injuries, etc.). Here's the situation: Consider a bet on any home underdog of +150 or less when it has a better record than its opponent after the season is one month old. And here's the logic behind the play: Historically, MLB teams perform better at home than they do on the road. In most cases you'll be betting on the better team (it has the better record) playing at home, but the opponent is the favorite likely because it has a perceived edge in the starting pitching matchup. We're hoping our team can keep things close, then win the game in the late innings. Or maybe the opponent's starter isn't at his best, and you end up cashing an underdog bet for that reason. The +150 limit comes into play to avoid lopsided pitching matchups, like Tarik Skubal versus a rookie making his first MLB start and/or similar situations. This "Situational Bet" will allow you to scan that day's MLB menu and quickly identify a team or teams that might be worth a play. Then you can handicap that game even further to determine if that team is worth a bet.
